Civil War is the 13th episode of Season 2, and is episode 35 of the full 210 episodes for the entire series. In this episode, Frank and his friend Harry recruit Ray and Robert to join them in a Civil War reenactment. But things don't go quite as planned.

Episode Information[]

Synopsis[]

Ray and Debra get an invitation in the mail to their friend's baby shower, and Ray tries everything to get out of it. He later finds out that Frank and Robert are involved in a Civil War reenactment the same day as the shower, so he decides to join them in order to get out of going to the baby shower.

Frank, Robert and Frank's friend Harry are all "fighting" for the Union. But because of Ray's late addition to the reenactment, he ends up "fighting" for the Confederates.

Running Gags[]

  • This is one of the many episodes in which Debra calls Ray an "idiot". In addition, she refers to Frank and Robert as idiots as well.

Trivia[]

  • This is only one of the very few times that Frank's father (Ray and Robert's grandfather) is mentioned.
  • Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson is mentioned at the end of this episode and said to be alive but actually he died on May 10, 1863, a little less than a month before Gettysburg.
  • Robert, Harry, Raymond and Frank are going to Gettysburg.

Production Notes[]

  • In this episode, the closing credits shift slightly up in today's reruns.
  • By production order, this is the twelfth episode of the second season. However, the Worldwide Pants and HBO Independent Productions logos didn't swap unlike the first episode of the second half of Season 3 by production order, which happened due to last-minute rescheduling.
  • This is the first Season 2 episode with the HBO logo appearing before Worldwide Pants, and the first episode where the final HBO flicker is silent when transitioning to the Worldwide Pants logo.

Quotes[]

  • Harry: "All the good killing's in the first five minutes."
  • Frank & Ray: "This is what war is all about, families coming together, to kill other families"
