Big Shots is the 19th episode of Season 3, and is episode 66 of the full 210 episodes for the entire series. In this episode, Ray and Robert go to meet the 1969 New York Mets. But the trip doesn't quite go according to plan.

Episode Information[]

Synopsis[]

Having been forced by Marie, Ray reluctantly takes Robert to the Hall of Fame to meet the 1969 New York Mets, where the team is signing autographs. When they arrive, they find that the line is incredibly long.

Since Ray is a "big shot" sports writer, he tries to use that as an excuse to get to the front of the line. Security kicks him out pretty quickly, so Robert doesn't get to meet his hero Art Shamsky.

Then on the drive home, they're pulled over by a police officer for speeding. So, Robert tries to be a "big shot", since he is a fellow cop, and tries to save Ray from getting a ticket. But it doesn't work.

Running Gags[]

Ray and Robert are constantly competing throughout the series. In this episode, they compete to see who the "big shot" in the family is.

Trivia[]

With the exception of the first few minutes, the entire episode is based solely on Ray and Robert.

A lot of popular music is heard throughout the series. At the very end of this episode, Ray and Robert sing the Edwin Starr song War.

This is the episode where the viewer sees who exactly Robert's dog Shamsky is named after. (The dog also makes a quick appearance.)

Production Notes[]

  • The Production Staff credit slide moves slightly southwest in today's reruns.
  • Patrick L. Coleman takes over for George Fuller as part of the Production Staff.

Quotes[]

  • Robert: "I mean, how often do I get to see the Ray-doesn't-get-everything show?"
