Ah. I wondered about this character as when she appears she comes on with a hell of a round of applause and audience recognition. So she must have been a well-known face in the USA. doesn't help if you're watching in Britain as you think "Who the Hell is that and why is she getting such a round of applause and cheers just for walking on?"
So. She was Alf Garnett's missus, or rather Archie Bunker's, in the American version of "Till Death Us do Part". apparently not so much a "silly old mare" as a "dingbat".
